植樹節(jié)是按照法律規(guī)定宣傳保護樹木，并組織動員群眾積極參加以植樹造林為活動內(nèi)容的節(jié)日。按時間長短可分為植樹日、植樹周和植樹月，共稱為國際植樹節(jié)。提倡通過這種活動，激發(fā)人們愛林造林的熱情、意識到環(huán)保的重要性。

中國的植樹節(jié)由凌道揚和韓安、裴義理等林學(xué)家于1915年倡議設(shè)立，最初將時間確定在每年清明節(jié)。1928年，國民政府為紀(jì)念孫中山逝世三周年，將植樹節(jié)改為3月12日。新中國成立后的1979年，在鄧小平提議下，第五屆全國人大常委會第六次會議決定將每年的3月12日定為植樹節(jié)。
